Flip-Lab

We believe educational workshops should focus on application, synthesis, analysis & evaluation.

We provide 21st century professional development.

Flip-Lab helps teachers develop interactive and relevant classroom experiences.

In the last 20 years it has become increasingly apparent that critical thinking skills, collaboration, and project-based learning are essential to prepare students for the future. Innovative classrooms around the world look very different from the desks-forward, lecture-based model developed early in the last century.

The problem: most professional development offerings are still soley about knowledge transfer.

That's why there is Flip-Lab - workshops that move beyond content delivery and create a space for educators to play with concepts and apply them to their own classrooms. Flip-Lab's professional development experiences are built around your school's vocabulary and values. Flip-Lab requires active participation - attendees prep before an event so that time together can be spent in synthesis, analysis and evaluation.

What makes Flip-Lab different?

Flip-Lab is a 21st century professional development experience. The participants collaborate to create a roadmap for great teaching. Everything developed at Flip-Lab is shared with other teachers under a Creative Commons license.

You will leave a Flip-Lab workshop with lesson plans tailored for your classroom and ready to implement. You'll pilot them in your classroom and work with peer coaches to debrief the results. Even better, you'll be part of a network of educators pushing the boundaries of educational best practice.

Bring Flip-Lab to your school!

Beginning September 2012, Flip-Lab will be available to come to your school. We will connect your faculty with Flip-Lab mentors working in different subject areas, and provide hands-on experience with any appropriate technology or tools needed.

The goal is to make your teachers' class time more human, engaging, collaborative, and authentic. We'll work on concrete teaching strategies that change the way students work, and can even help you create original, custom content that your faculty will be ready to use the next day.

Events can be customized to suit your needs – and meet your faculty where they are. Rates can be discussed once we understand what your school needs.
